2013年11月8日，營業處所設於美國伊利諾州、主要製造販售車用電池與電池充電器產品的Schumacher Electric Corporation公司(其公司名與德國名賽車手舒馬克相同，下稱Schumacher)，向美國伊利諾州北區聯邦地院提起專利侵權告訴，控告營業處所設在維吉尼亞州的汽車零件零售商Advance Auto Parts, Inc.(下稱AAP)、其輸入汽車零件產品之子公司Advance Auto Innovations, LLC(下稱AAI)、以及汽車零件通路商Autocraft，其採購自中國供應商、掛上Autocraft品牌、型號為Autocraft Model SEM-1562A之汽車電池充電器產品，侵害Schumacher甫獲核發、與電池充電器相關的專利權利。
本案系爭專利為美國專利編號US 8,575,899，名稱為「具備自動電壓偵測之電池充電器(Battery charger with automatic voltage detection)」，於2013年11月5日核發，發明人John Whiting與Matthew A. Heins。Schumacher主張至少系爭專利之請求項1受到侵害。
Schumacher在訴狀中指出，AAP已向Schumacher採購汽車電池充電器產品多年(目前在AAP的網站上仍有數款Schumacher的汽車電池充電器產品被販售)，而在2012年11月，AAP通知Schumacher不再採購Schumacher最受歡迎的汽車電池充電器產品，而會轉向中國大陸之供應商採購類似產品；但在2013年，AAP開始以Autocraft之品牌販售與Schumacher型號SEM-1562A產品相同之產品，甚至是使用相同之型號(及本案系爭產品)，因此Schumacher便基於系爭專利向AAP等提起專利侵權告訴。(861字；表2)
