2013年09月20日，位於德拉瓦州的Securus Technologies, Inc.及T-Netix, Inc.公司（下簡稱原告或Securus及T-Netix），向聯邦地方法院東德州分院（United States District Court For Eastern District Of Texas Marshall Division）提起專利侵權訴訟，控告路易斯安那州的Ally Telecom Group LLC公司（下稱Ally或被告）及位於德州的Network Communications International Corporation（下稱NCIC或被告）所使用的通訊系統及網路電話等產品，侵害其專利權。原告除要求法院禁止Ally及NCIC的侵權行為外，並要求被告負起損害賠償的責任。
原告Securus公司於1986年設立，現於美國及加拿大提供其先進的通話管理系統及通信技術服務，可用於調查活動、防止犯罪和工廠的自動化操作等；另一原告T-NETIX公司於1986年設立，現於美加地區提供專業化的通訊產品及服務，包括高安全性的通聯處理、通聯驗證等。被告Ally公司於1990年成立，主要提供網路通訊及網路電話(VoIP)等服務產品；另一被告NCIC公司於1995年成立，主要提供電話接線服務及中控式的電話系統(Inmate Telephone System)等電信服務。
本案系爭專利為美國專利編號US 5,655,013，專利名稱為「基於電腦控制、監視、記錄和報告電話接入的裝置及其方法」(Computer-based method and apparatus for controlling, monitoring, recording and reporting telephone access)，於1997年8月5日核發。
第二件系爭專利為美國專利編號US 6,560,323，專利名稱為「基於電腦控制、監視、記錄和報告電話接入的裝置及其方法」(Computer-based method and apparatus for controlling, monitoring, recording and reporting telephone access)，於2003年5月6日核發。
第三件系爭專利為美國專利編號US 7,529,357，專利名稱為「犯人管理和通話處理的系統和方法」(Inmate management and call processing systems and methods)，於2009年5月5日核發。
第四件系爭專利為美國專利編號US 7,899,167，專利名稱為「集中式呼叫處理」(Centralized call processing)，於2011年3月1日核發。
第五件系爭專利為美國專利編號US8,031,850，專利名稱為「探視終端用戶辨識的系統及方法」(Systems and methods for visitation terminal user identification)，於2011年10月4日核發。上述五件系爭專利皆於2013年05月08日轉讓給兩間原告公司。
訴狀中，原告宣稱，兩間被告公司於系爭專利的存續期間，未經其許可，於美國境內製造、使用、邀約銷售或銷售，已獲准專利的發明技術或產品，直接及間接侵害其專利權，依其專利侵權的事實，應負擔侵權的損害賠償，且被告須負擔原告的律師費。(1123字；表2)

A method of managing telephone activity in an institution, comprising the steps of:

- identifying an institutional caller who wishes to place an outside call to an outside recipient;

(2) blocking the institutional caller, and while the institutional caller's line remains blocked:(a) calling said outside recipient;(b) providing the identity of said institutional caller to said outside recipient; and(c) receiving a control code from said outside recipient;
