2013年7月22日，居住於美國德州的獨立發明人James B. Goodman(“Goodman”)於美國加州北區地方法院，指控台灣的半導體公司，南亞科技股份有限公司在美分公司Nan Ya Technology Corporation, U.S.A.(“南亞科技”)之電腦記憶體系統，侵犯其專利權，要求法院判定因被告故意之行徑准予三倍的故意侵權損害賠償。
Goodman於訴狀中指出，早在2012年8月22日便曾發出警告信函，告知南亞科技所生產販售的手機記憶體產品，侵犯其專利權，要求停止侵權行為。
本案系爭專利共1項，為美國專利編號US 6,243,315，名稱為具有低電源關閉模式的電腦記憶體系統(Computer memory system with a low power down mode)，係於1999年12月31日申請，2001年6月5日核發，發明人及專利權人同為James B. Goodman。(460字；表2)
