2013年2月19日，美國維吉尼亞州的Technology Advancement Group, Inc. （TAG，原告）對紐澤西州的Ivyskin, LLC （Ivyskin，被告）提起專利侵權之訴，請求法院下禁制令並要求損害賠償。本案涉及的專利共三項，分別為US 7,843686 B2、US 7,522,412 B2以及US 7,339,783 B2（系爭專利），本案由美國維吉尼亞州東區地方法院審理。
原告指稱，被告所製造、販售的iPhone以及iPad保護殼：WranglerR for iPhone、DenaliR for iPhone以及 SmartCaseRfor iPhone and iPad（系爭產品）侵害系爭專利。三項專利皆名為「保護攜帶式計算裝置的系統（System for Protecting a Portable Computing Device）」，分別在2009年4月21日、2010年11月30日、2008年5月4日獲得核准。

Technology Advancement Group, Inc是退伍軍人所有的中小型企業(Veteran-Owned Small Business, VOSB)，以國防相關工業為主要營業內容。主要營業項目為客製化電子設備、資訊科技、人資方案以及網路管理，共持有11項專利。TAG公司內共分為三個小組，分別是戰略系統組、科技服務組以及美國網際網路交換組，分別提供能在惡劣環境使用的資訊科技硬體、資訊科技相關支援服務、資料庫以及網路連結交換服務，而與系爭專利有關的正是提供資訊科技硬體的戰略系統組，事實上TAG也推出電腦保護殼等產品。
Ivyskin是電子產品保護套公司，為經過蘋果公司官方認證的合作夥伴，專出IPhone、Ipad、Ipod以及Macbook保護套及周邊產品的公司，推出具有各種功能的保護殼，包括防塵、防水、防摔、玻璃螢幕、防刮等等，產品主要在歐美及澳洲等地銷售。(660字；表2)
