2013年2月25日，營業處所設於美國伊利諾州之專利授權公司Cascades Ventures, Inc.旗下子公司Cascades Streaming Technologies, LLC(下稱Cascades)，向美國伊利諾州北區聯邦地院提起專利侵權告訴，控告由美國大學十大聯盟(Big Ten Conference，為由主要位於美國中西部之12所大學所組成的體育競技聯盟，而到2014年成員將增至14所學校)與福斯娛樂集團(Fox Entertainment Group, Inc.)所共同設立營運之Big Ten Network, LLC公司(下稱BTN)，其所提供之十大聯盟運動賽事線上即時轉播與隨選收視服務系統BTN2Go，侵犯Cascades所擁有之與影音資料饋送系統專利權利。
本案系爭專利為美國專利編號US 8,156,236，名稱為「影音資料切換與觀看系統(Audio-video data switching and viewing system)」，於2012年4月10日核發，發明人為FilippoCostanzo、SaverioRoncolini與Antonio Rossi。
Cascades之創辦人與現任執行長為Anthony O. Brown，其可說是從事專利授權業務(或說是專利流氓)之先驅者，於1998年便創立TechSearch LLC來專營專利授權之業務。Cascades旗下還包括Cascades Branding Innovation LLC、Cascades Computer Innovation, LLC 等子公司。
BTN成立於2006年，其於2007年推出聯盟運動賽事的電視轉播服務，並於2011年推出BTN2Go，其為提供消費者可透過網路瀏覽器或APP等、線上觀看運動賽事轉播等節目的網路服務。(618字；表2)
