2012年10月10日，德州的Powerline Innovations LLC(以下簡稱Powerline Innovations) 以US8157581已核准專利 (相關資訊如表一) 向德州泰勒分院提告，控訴NetGear INC(以下簡稱NetGear, http://www.netgear.com/)已侵犯前述專利中宣明的權利範圍，包括Powerline Models XAVB1501、XAVB1601、XAV2001、XAVN2001、XAVB2001、XAVNB2001、XAV2101、XAVB2101、XAUB2511、XWN5001、XAVB5001、XAVB5101、XWNB5201、XAVB5601、XAVB5602等產品內嵌的電源線模組。

NETGEAR於1996年成立，是一家電腦網路設備及其他電腦硬體廠商。Power Line Networking即「電源線上網」，它是一種可以讓裝置透過家中的電源線直接連上網際網路的技術，也被稱為「HomePlug」。Powerline Innovations認為，Netgear在未取得授權的情況下，即在自家電源線上網產品中使用到US8157581載明之相關技術或應用！因此，原告Powerline Innovations請求法院判處Netgear 目前正在製造、使用、銷售或提供的相關產品侵權事實，並要求被告對其侵權行為進行損害賠償。(505字；表2)
