2012年9月26日，設立於美國德拉瓦州的Ameranth Inc. (以下簡稱 Ameranth)以四項已核准專利侵權為由，控告設立於美國加州的Apple Inc.(以下簡稱Apple) 等所製造、使用、販賣、及/或提供販賣的電腦技術產品，包含個人電腦、行動通訊設備、可攜式數位音樂及影音播放器與整合了Passbook System(“PBS”的相關硬體、軟體、元件、及/或系統侵權，為販賣之要約或進口之無線網路相關產品及/或系統侵權，全案將由美國加州南區法院負責審理調查。
本案的系爭專利有四件，編號為：US6,384,850、US6,871,325、US6,982,733、US8,146,077均是資訊管理和同步的相關技術。
- US6,384,850：”Information management and synchronous communications systems with menu generation”，於1999年09月21日申請，於2002年05月07日獲准，專利權人為原告Ameranth。850系爭專利之申請專利範圍其請求項共16項，獨立項有2項。
- US6,871,325：”Information management and synchronous communications system with menu generation”，於2001年11月01日申請，於2005年03月22日獲准，專利權人為原告Ameranth。325系爭專利之申請專利範圍其請求項共15項，獨立項有7項。本專利為850系爭專利的延伸項目。
- US6,982,733：”Information management and synchronous communications system with menu generation, and handwriting and voice modification of orders”，於2001年11月01日申請，於2006年01月03日獲准，專利權人為原告Ameranth。733系爭專利之申請專利範圍其請求項共16項，獨立項有4項。本專利為850系爭專利的延伸項目。
- US8,146,077：”Information management and synchronous communications system with menu generation, and handwriting and voice modification of orders”，於2005年04月22日申請，於2012年03月27日獲准，專利權人為原告Ameranth。077系爭專利之申請專利範圍其請求項共18項，獨立項有3項。本專利為733系爭專利的延伸項目。
Ameranth, Inc位於加州聖地牙哥，成立於1996年，以無線通訊整合軟體服務提供解決方案，尤其在醫院、娛樂、餐飲業者研發管理系統的 IT 解決方案。Ameranth 的主要專利產品名為21 世紀通訊 (21st Century Communications) 和21 世紀餐廳 (21st Century Restaurant)，該產品的運作架構如圖1所示。

雖然Apple公司的Passbook 還不是一項完整的服務，在iOS6中僅能對應特定幾款應用程式進行數位票證的服務，如下載儲存電子登機證、旅館預訂、電影票和其他數位票證的功能。但是Ameranth仍舊針對Apple的Passbook的下載儲存部分提出控告，以搶奪未來電子票證的市場。(748字；表1；圖1)
