2012年06月25日，設於美國德州公司美國車輛科技 (American Vehicular Sciences LLC，以下簡稱AVS) 以1項專利侵權為由，控告TOYOTA及其在美國之銷售、營銷、工程製造部門(以下統稱TOYOTA)以及GENTEX Corporation(以下簡稱GENTEX)所製造、販賣、為販賣之要約或進口之智慧型光束自動大燈調光技術及車輛侵權，全案將由美國德州東部聯邦地院負責審理。
本案系爭專利US5,845,000名稱為「用於車輛利用辨識模式之光學識別及監視系統(Optical identification and monitoring system using pattern recognition for use with vehicles)」，於1995年06月07日申請，於1998年12月01日獲准，發明人為David S. Breed等三人，專利權於2012年由Automotive Technologies International, Inc. 轉讓給American Vehicular Sciences LLC。系爭專利之申請專利範圍請求項共25項，獨立項有6項(第1、10、16、21、23、24項)。
American Vehicular Sciences LLC 是屬於大型專利蟑螂Acacia Research Group LLC成員之一，以專利授權為主要業務。(351字；表1)
