2012年6月18日，居於全球領先地位的手持式一維與二維條碼辨識器製造商Hand Held Products, Inc.公司(下稱Hand Held)，向德拉瓦州聯邦地院提起專利侵權告訴，控告網路通路商Amazon.com及其關係企業所研發與提供可以下載至不同智慧型手機作業系統上，具備掃描條碼取得商品價格等資訊之手機應用程式(諸如Amazon Mobile、Amazon Price Check等)，其在執行條碼辨識功能時侵犯Hand Held所擁有、從圖像中擷取並辨識條碼資訊之專利。
本案被告有Amazon.com, Inc.，還包括其提供手機應用程式授權下載的子公司AMZN Mobile LLC，提供生鮮食品等網購宅配服務之子公司AmazonFresh LLC，為Amazon研發相關手機應用程式之子公司A9.com, Inc.及A9 Innovations LLC、以及Amazon於2011年所併購之家用產品網路通路商Quidsi, Inc.等。
本案系爭專利為美國專利編號US 6,015,088，名稱為「即時視訊圖像之解碼(Decoding of real time video imaging)」，原始權利人為Welch Allyn, Inc.，而後該公司之衍生公司Welch Allyn Data Collection, Inc.承繼了系爭專利權利，並於1999年與Hand Held Products, Inc.合併。系爭專利於2000年1月18日核發。
原告Hand Held於2007年底為美國集團公司Honeywell International, Inc.所收購，並於2008年成為該集團名為Honeywell Scanning and Mobility之事業的一部份。(513字；表2)
