2012年5月23日，設立於美國威斯康辛州的照明設備公司Ruud Lighting, Inc.(下稱Ruud)，向東威斯康辛州聯邦地院提起專利侵權告訴，控告同樣生產販售LED照明設備的Cooper Lighting, LLC(下稱Cooper)公司，其所推出之戶外LED照明設備產品Generation Series LED Post Top Luminaire，侵犯Ruud所擁有、裝設散熱器之模組化LED照明裝置專利。根據訴狀指出，Ruud本身所生產販售、用於道路照明等戶外LED泛光燈照明產品，均有實施系爭專利技術並有一定的商業規模。
本案並非Ruud首次對Cooper提告，在2010年4月，Ruud便曾向相同法院提告(案號為2:10-cv-00280-PJG)，控告Cooper的LED照明設備產品，侵犯其另一項LED照明燈具專利(美國專利編號US7,686,469)。
本案系爭專利為美國專利編號US7,952,262，名稱為「整合可嵌入與乘載鄰接LED照明模組之互連散熱器的模組化LED照明裝置(Modular LED unit incorporating interconnected heat sinks configured to mount and hold adjacent LED modules)」，發明為Ruud的創辦人Alan Ruud與其他三人，該專利於2011年5月核發。
Ruud在2011年8月為美國LED大廠Cree, Inc. 以5.25億美元收購，而這個收購動作，讓這兩家技術與產品高度互補之公司得以結合，並使得Cree, Inc.能夠進一步提升其市場地位並跨足高效能LED照明設備之市場。(520字；表2)
