2015年3月26日，營業處所設於美國德州的專利授權公司Rothschild Connected Devices Innovations, LLC (下稱RCDI)，向美國德州東區聯邦地院提起專利侵權告訴，控告荷蘭皇家飛利浦公司之美國分公司Philips North America Corporation(下稱Philips)，其所製造販賣之智慧照明控制系統與裝置產品，例如Dynalite照明控制系統與裝置產品、hue個人連網智慧照明控制系統與裝置產品等，直接或間接侵害了RCDI所擁有之一項專利權利的至少請求項1。
本案系爭專利為美國專利編號US 8,788,090，名稱為「用來創造個人化消費產品的系統與方法(System and method for creating a personalized consumer product)」，於2014年7月22日核發，發明人為Leigh M. Rothschild。
原告RCDI在訴狀指出，Philips所製造販賣之照明控制與裝置系統，使用者可以依其偏好控制不同電子裝置的功能，例如Dynalite系統讓使用者可以依其偏好控制照明燈具、窗簾、百葉窗等設備之運作，而hue系統則可以讓使用者從遠端依其偏好控制hue照明裝置等，主張至少侵害了系爭專利權利之請求項1。
本案專利發明人Leigh M. Rothschild係獨立發明家，畢業於邁阿密大學(University of Miami)的商學院(School of Business)，卻擁有超過80件之美國專利，發明技術領域涵蓋包括電腦伺服器、3D顯示、GPS技術等技術領域。據悉Leigh M. Rothschild曾在1998年創辦一家公司BarPoint,Inc.，但在2005年將該公司出售。他現職是Rothschild Trust Holdings, LLC公司的常務董事(Managing Director)。而本案原告公司Rothschild Connected Devices Innovations, LLC隸屬於Rothschild Trust Holdings, LLC旗下的授權公司之一。
Leigh M. Rothschild透過設立不同的專利授權公司來提起專利侵權訴訟，為其個別專利權利尋求獲利，例如2015年截自3月底止，Rothschild系列的專利授權公司便有以下的訴訟活動：
- 在2015年2月6日，RCDI向本案相同法院提起19起專利侵權之訴，控告多家公司所販賣、具備讓使用者透過智慧型手機等裝置遠端控制的安全監控、智慧家庭或智慧家電等系統產品，侵害本案系爭專利權利(見表三)；
- 在2015年3月20日與3月25日，Rothschild Location Technologies LLC向德州東區聯邦地院先後共提起15起專利侵權之訴，控告多家公司具備提供GPS定位資訊功能之裝置產品、App產品或服務系統等，侵害其所擁有、名稱均為「用於遠距輸入、儲存與分享一定位資訊裝置位址的裝置、系統與方法(Device, system and method for remotely entering, storing and sharing addresses for a positional information device)」的US 8,606,503或US 7,917,285專利權利。此外，在2015年1月22日，Rothschild Location Technologies LLC向德拉瓦州聯邦地院提起專利侵權之訴，控告Jaguar Land Rover North America LLC公司侵害US 8,606,503專利權利(見表四)；
- 在2015年3月20日與3月19日，Rothschild Broadcast Distribution Systems, LLC向德州東區聯邦地院先後共提起10起專利侵權之訴，控告多家公司透過網路提供影音內容產品之服務，侵害其所擁有、名稱為「用來在雲端運算環境中儲存廣播內容的系統與方法(System and Method for Storing Broadcast Content in a Cloud-Based Computing Environment)」的US 8,856,221專利權利(見表五)。(1282字；表5)
