新聞：（2008年4月28日經濟日報-宏齊億光：侵權案 影響不大）針對美國哥倫比亞大學退休教授Rothschild控告全球逾30家廠商侵權，億光（2393）董事長葉寅夫、宏齊（6168）董事長汪秉龍都掛保證: 「對公司影響不大」，億光公告4月15日已與當事人達成和解，宏齊亦公告近期將與對方和解，強調「對財務業務無重大影響」。[1]
評析：
今年2月，在美國ITC（國際貿易委員會）提出告訴的正是美國哥倫比亞大學（Columbia University）應用物理與應用數學系（Applied Physics and Applied Mathemathics）榮譽教授Gertrude F. Neumark[2]。
關於30家被告之公司彙整，可參考文獻[3]整理，如表一所示。由表可見包括LED上、中游與應用端，還有下游應用端，涵蓋消費性電子與手機系統等廠商。
台灣廠商包括Bacol Optoelectronic Co. Ltd. Taipei, Taiwan.（偉新光電）、Everlight Electronics Co. Ltd. Taipei, Taiwan.（億光）、Harvatek International Inc. Taiwan.（宏齊科技）、Kingbright Electronic Co. Ltd. Taiwan.（今台電子）、Lite-On Technology Corp. Taiwan.（光寶）、Opto Tech Corporation, Taiwan.（光磊）與Yellow Stone Corporation, Taiwan.（早安股份有限公司）等七家。其中，億光已於4月22日達成和解[4]（南韓首爾半導體亦於4月22日達成和解）。

補充說明，根據[5]報導，Gertrude F. Neumark教授已分別在2005年控告Cree、Lumileds Lighting、Toyoda Gosei、Osram Opto Semiconductors侵權，並在不同時間與相關公司達成和解，包括Toyoda Gosei在2006年8月，Lumileds Lighting在2008年3月11日等。
Gertrude F. Neumark教授全名為Gertrude Fanny Neumark（Gertrude Fanny Neumark Rothschild），如表二整理[6]。1921年生，1951年拿到哥倫比亞大學博士學位，1952年到1960年在Sylvania Research Laboratories就職、1960年到1985年在Philips Laboratories工作，之後1982年回到哥倫比亞大學教書（應已在Philips Lab.退休）。
這兩件爭議專利Gertrude F. Neumark控告多家LED相關公司，如表三所示。分別於1988年8月15日與8月22日申請，專利家族包括美國、日本、韓國、德國、加拿大與歐盟。
最後，本事件對於基礎研究的啟示包括：
1.致力於前瞻研發是重要的；
2.將前瞻研發申請專利是重要的；
3.有點耐心，等到市場起飛時，再來收權利金；
4.有用的專利不用多，一個就夠。
