2012年7月20日，設立於美國加州的一家專利授權公司Agranat IP Licensing LLC(下稱Agranat)，向加州中區聯邦地院提起專利侵權告訴，控告Hewlett-Packard Company (下稱HP)公司所製造販售、具備網路接續與配置功能之印表機、伺服器、儲存裝置、無線AP、路由器等產品，侵犯Agranat所擁有之嵌入式伺服器專利。
本案系爭專利為美國專利編號US 6,456,308，名稱為「嵌入式網路伺服器(Embedded web server)」，於2002年9月24日核發，發明人是Ian D. Agranat、Kenneth A. Giusti與Scott D. Lawrence，原始權利人則是發明人Ian D. Agranat所創設的軟體公司Agranat Systems, Inc.。
該專利技術為建製一包含程式碼片段之網頁，而當該程式碼被執行時，會讓一網路伺服器提供即時動態資料。而Agranat在其訴狀中指出，系爭HP產品均儲存有一嵌入式網路伺服器應用程式，當使用者將其客端設備(client device)透過網路與HP產品連結時，該產品便會執行前述應用程式並在客端設備上產製出一個由HTML語言所構成的嵌入式網路伺服器網頁。該網頁包含可執行之程式碼，讓前述應用程式產製出即時動態資料並提供給客端設備之使用者，而這便侵犯了系爭專利之權利。
本案系爭專利發明人Ian D. Agranat為嵌入式系統相關技術之研發者與創業家，創設Agranat Systems, Inc.在2000年為Virata Corporation公司所併購(而後又再與另一家公司合併成Globespan Virata)，而目前Ian D. Agranat則為一家名為Wildlife Acoustics Inc.之公司的創辦人與CEO，其研發並提供生態環境監控之相關軟體技術。而據查，原告Agranat擁有之兩項與嵌入式網路伺服器有關之專利(本案系爭專利與US 5,973,696)均為Ian D. Agranat 開發的技術。(670字；表2)
