2012年5月4日，Motorola旗下以生產對講機、條碼掃描器、企業數位助理（enterprise digital assistant，EDA）等產品為主、以政府部門與企業為主要客群之Motorola Solutions, Inc.，以及經銷其產品之經銷商System ID Warehouse等，在美國東德州聯邦地院，被一家名為Mobile Scanning Technologies, LLC（下稱Mobile Scanning）之專利授權公司提告，Mobile Scanning控告Motorola所生產販售、附有雷射掃描功能之個人數位助理（personal digital assistant，PDA）或EDA產品，侵犯其所擁有、美國專利編號US 6,065,880、名稱為「具備雷射掃描功能之PDA（Laser enhanced personal data assistant）」的專利權利。
本案系爭專利之發明人為Curtis Thompson，原始權利人則為3Com Corporation，於2000年5月23日核發。系爭專利經過再審查（re-examination）並於2011年10月獲得通過再審查之證明，而在該證明文件上所揭載的權利人為Intellectual Asset Group, LLC（下稱IAG）。
本案原告Mobile Scanning在其訴狀上所揭示的營業處所地址與IAG網站所揭載之通訊地址一致。據本網調查，本案是Mobile Scanning或IAG首次提告案件。根據IAG網站資訊，IAG為一家提供科技公司、研究機構或投資事業等智財權交易服務之公司，提供有關智財權獲利策略之規劃執行等服務。(466字；表2)
