2011年12月2日英國專利授權公司Garnet Digital大規模控告手機、電信及通路商，包括：Google、蘋果、三星、HTC、華為、摩托羅拉、樂金、索尼易利信、AT&T、Sprint、T-Mobile、Verizon、Radio Shack…..等33家業者，有關通信終端銜接遠端資料庫技術，全案在東德州地方法院審理。
本案系爭專利 US5,379,421(INTERACTIVE TERMINAL FOR THE ACCESS OF REMOTE DATABASE INFORMATION)於1995年由獨立發明人Palazzi, III, Michael A 及Epps, III, Frank A. 申請取得後，專利權移轉給Laursar Communications，直在2011年歷經3次專利權移轉至Garnet Digital公司手上。421專利的前案US5327554已於2011年7月到期。
Garnet Digital公司是英國專利授權公司，公司經理人Richard Delgado也是大學法學教授。(221字；表1)
