2010年11月29日，位於美國加州的專利授權公司Technology Licensing Company採取個別擊破模式，分案各別控告北美液晶電視品牌商Vizio，還有日商山葉株式會社(Yamaha Corporation)與Orion America，以一項光碟讀取相關專利侵權為由，該3起案件全部於加州北部聯邦地院負責審理調查。
本案系爭專利編號為US5,734,862，這是Technology Licensing Company唯一持有的專利，專利發明人為Charles Kulas，主要涉及CD-ROM唯讀記憶光碟以及DVD數位多功能光碟的讀取技術。
雖然僅有一項專利，但Technology Licensing Company卻已告遍許多消費電子大廠，過去本網站也曾報導過Technology Licensing Company與電子設備產品製造商愛普生(Epson)的案件。
而細看該公司提告的歷史紀錄，日商企業已成為主要的訴訟目標，除了愛普生 以及山葉之外，2009年6月先鋒公司(Pioneer)也曾與Technology Licensing Company交手，甚至本次被告Orion America也與日商山水電氣(Sansui Electric)有密切合作關係，已發展出品牌傘(註1)的合作關係，Technology Licensing Company的訴訟策略顯而易見。(446字；表1)
註1： 品牌傘(umbrella brand)係指將品牌擴大延伸至同類產品及其他新產品的企業合作，常見於拓展國外業務。而山水電氣主要是利用Orion America在美國當地的影響力，協助其發展美國的電視影音市場。
